Trusting In The Goodness Of God

What do you expect?

Seriously, think about that.

What do you expect to happen to you today?

When you got out of bed this morning, did you start off expecting good stuff, or bad stuff?

Well, here’s a shocker for you…

You are going to get what you EXPECT!

Psalm 23 (King James Version)
6 Surely goodness and mercy (lovingkindness) shall follow (pursue) me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Every single day of my life and your life is an opportunity to see God’s tremendous love and goodness towards us.

However, too many times, we don’t give God an opportunity to show it because the only thing we expect is bad stuff!

How many times have you started off your day a bit grumpy and negative and it just went downhill from there?

I know I’ve experienced that many more times than I would like.  But, I really didn’t have to.

You see, God has given us free will choice every single day.  He never usurps that free will choice or forces anything on us.  God works with the choices we make and our believing.

Deuteronomy 30 (King James Version)
19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore (hint hint) choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:
20 That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

We have to be very aware of what’s going on in our lives each day and realize that there is more to it than we see with our physical eyes.

We do have an adversary that is out to steal, kill, and destroy (remember John 10:10?).  But God’s will for you and me is abundance in EVERY area of life.

God is actually chasing us down with goodness and lovingkindness every day!

But a lot of times, we are dodging the goodness and lovingkindness that He is chasing us with because we’re expecting bad stuff for whatever reason.

That’s how the adversary is able to trick us out of experiencing God’s goodness.

The key to success in all areas of life is understanding the true character of our loving heavenly father, and his desire to help us, take care of us, protect us, prosper us, provide for us, heal us, and much more (so much more).

Psalm 34 (King James Version)
8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed (happy) is the man that trusteth in him.
9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want (lack) to them that fear him.
10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want (lack) any good thing.

Our heavenly Father is so loving and kind.

He is not some grumpy old fuddy dudd who’s waiting around for us to screw up so he can slap us around or throw bad things at us to teach us a lesson.

He’s not trying to keep us from having any fun or enjoying life.

According to the verse above, He wants us to be HAPPY.

He knows that we are going to screw up.  He knows we are going to miss the mark (that’s the literal meaning of the word “sin”).

If we were perfect, we wouldn’t need a saviour to pay the price for all the mistakes we’ve made or will ever make in the future.

The price has already been paid in full for every mistake we will ever make.

That is amazing love and goodness.

Today, when the adversary tempts you to get fearful and start expecting something bad to happen, stand against that and resist it forcefully.

Realize the adversary is trying to trick you so he can steal from you.

When that temptation comes (and it will come) be ready to respond to it with these words:

Psalm 34 (King James Version)
1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
3 O magnify (make bigger) the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered (rescued) me from all my fears.

Be confident that God is pursuing you with good things for every area of your life TODAY.

Stand firm on those promises even when things “appear” to be going wrong.

Remember how much God loves you and wants to help you today.

He doesn’t want bad stuff happening to you.  He wants you to experience His GOODNESS today.

Believe it, speak it, and act on it, and you will experience things in a way that is bigger and better than you expect!

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.  🙂

Whose Responsibility Is It… Mine or God’s?

With the holidays behind us and the new year in full swing, many of us have taken a look back at our lives over the last year and have come to the realization that there is plenty of room for improvement.

We may want to improve our health, our finances, our relationships, our career, or whatever.

We hear a lot about “new year’s resolutions” this time of year.  What that really means to the majority is “I wish my life were different.”

A month from now, for many, those new year’s “wishes” will be all forgotten and people will be back in their same old routine.

In the Christian world, one thing that has caused confusion in many people’s lives is figuring out what part of the process we’re responsible for and what part God is responsible for.

Many times I hear well meaning people say, “if it’s the Lord’s will, it will happen” or “if God wants it to happen, he’ll make a way.”

You know what the common denominator is for most of those people?  They’re still sitting around waiting for something to happen.

Too many times people use God as an excuse to be lazy and not take action.

The truth is, God really wants good things to happen in every area of our lives, but it’s not all up to Him.  He is always willing and able to help us, but He requires our participation as well.

God has given us free will choice to believe and act and put His principles to work in our lives to see awesome results.

Check out this story about the man who brought his son to Jesus because he was possessed of an evil spirit which would torment him at will:

Mark 9 (KJV)

20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
21 And he (Jesus) asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.
22 And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

Notice that the as father came up to Jesus he tried to put all the responsibility on Jesus.  Jesus actually corrected him and said “If you can do your part and believe, then all things are possible to you as you believe.”  Jesus required the man’s participation as well.

How did Jesus know that the man didn’t believe?  One word,”if”, was the clue to his doubt.

The man was not fully persuaded that Jesus could or was willing to do anything to help in the situation.  He did not believe.

One thing the man did have going for him was the fact that he was taking action and seeking help.  He wasn’t just sitting on the couch eating twinkies waiting around for help to come to him.

He was on the right track.  He had gone out searching for results.  He just had one key component missing.  Belief.

After Jesus responded and let him know that all things are possible to him that believes, the man got fully persuaded that he had found the answer, and Jesus was able to help in the situation.  Jesus’ words were exactly what the man needed to hear to get the doubt out.

So now, the question for you is, what is it that you still have an “if” in front in your life?

Do you doubt that God wants you have a healthy and strong body, or success in your business or career, or awesome relationships with your family, friends, and significant others, or a peaceful and sharp mind, or financial freedom and abundance, or a clear understanding of who He is and how much He loves you?

All of these things are available to you, but they don’t come automatically.  It’s up to you to get fully persuaded and get the doubt out.  You will know if you are doubting by the things you say, and the things you do.

Your words and your actions are a direct representation of what you truly believe in your heart.

If you want to get healthier and more fit, but you continue to sit around eating terrible and never exercising, your actions show that you don’t believe it’s possible for you.

If you want to make more money, but you don’t take action to improve your business skills or your financial skills, then you don’t truly believe it’s possible for you.

Do you really want to improve your life?  Then make sure you have all the key components in place.

It’s up to you to take action and seek out the resources that God has available to you to help you.  It’s up to you to get your belief, your words, and your actions in line with what you are looking for.  It’s up to you to stay consistent with what you believe, say, and do to get you to the destination of success in every area.

Acknowledge God and ask him for his help in every area of life, and you do your part as well.  Then all things are possible to you.

Find out what God says about an area and stand firm by speaking those words to yourself and take action without wavering, and you are guaranteed to see His abundance in a big way!

If you want supernatural things to happen in your life, you do your part, the natural, and God will do His part, the super.  That’s a winning combination.

If you really want it, this can be your best year yet!

What’s really available to me?

When we think of the abundant life and what is available to us, we all have different beliefs about what is available to us in the different areas of life based on our past experiences and based on the experiences of those around us.

Many times we don’t believe something is available to us because we don’t have a positive reference around us in that area.  We don’t believe, because we’ve never seen it.

For example, if we have been continually exposed to lack in a certain area of life such as finances, health, or relationships, and we were never exposed to an abundance of good things in those areas, it is hard for us to comprehend and experience it for ourselves.

That is why it is so important for us to get into God’s Word and search out His promises of abundance for each area of life and work those promises into our daily thinking.  The more we work those promises in, the more our believing builds around it.

It’s also important to surround ourselves with those that are already experiencing God’s abundance in different areas.  Only then will we be able to get a real vision of the great things that God has available and start moving towards it.

Habakkuk 2 (KJV)
2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

God’s promises are His desire and vision for our lives.  We must find them and keep them in front of us continually so that we will be inspired to take the proper action steps of faith each day that will help us experience the results of those promises in our daily lives.

Here’s the important part.  It doesn’t just happen by us sitting on the couch thinking about it and waiting for things to fall into our lap.

God has given that responsibility to each of us.  He has given you and me free will choice for our lives.  He has made abundance in every area of life available to every single one of us.  We have to choose to receive it, just like salvation.

It is up to us to make the right choices based on what He says He wants for us.  And the good news is, He wants GOOD things for every area of our lives!  He wants us to realize a life that is so much bigger than we could ever ask or think.

Why?  Because when we start seeing abundance (or more than enough) it overflows out of our lives and into the lives of those around us.  When we start overflowing with God’s goodness, people are attracted to that.  Then it’s an opportunity to share God’s goodness with someone else and bring them into the family of God!

That’s what good news is all about.  You want to tell everybody about it when something good is happening.  You also want to tell others how they can get in on it too.  That’s good livin’.

It doesn’t matter what yesterday was like for you.  Today is a new day.  Start today by finding a promise of His goodness in the area that you are currently experiencing lack and memorize it and start making that promise a part of your thinking today.

Psalm 23 (KJV)
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow (pursue) me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
With God, all things are possible, and all things are possible to him that believes.  Start believing and acting today!

Are you ready to experience LIFE the way God intended?

Welcome to the first post in what we hope will be a long and fulfilling relationship!  We hope that the information you find here will inspire and encourage you.  We hope it will help you better understand the loving and giving nature of the one true God and motivate you to do what it takes to see His awesome goodness in every area of your life and continually flourish and succeed in every way while impacting the lives of those around you in a positive way.

The basis for Overflowing LIFE is this awesome verse:

John 10 (KJV)

10The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I (Jesus Christ) am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.

Life – zoe – the God kind and quality of life.  Life including all its aspects and essences.

Abundantly – perissos – over and above, more than is necessary, superadded, supremely, something further, superior, extraordinary, surpassing, uncommon, more remarkable, more excellent.

God’s will for our lives is for us to see his extraordinary goodness in every area of life.  God wants us to overflow with his goodness physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially, occupationally, and relationally.  He hasn’t limited His goodness to one area of life, He wants it in all areas of our life.  That’s not only good news, that’s great news!

His Word contains the keys to experiencing abundance in every area of life.  Get ready to discover them and apply them to your life!
